Bissell CrossWave Floor Cleaner Review

Nobody loves mopping. The Bissell CrossWave promises to eliminate it by vacuuming and washing your hard floors at the same time, in a single pass. At $200, it sits between a basic vacuum and a premium robot mop. We used it daily for weeks on hardwood, tile, and rugs to see if it truly cuts floor cleaning time in half.

Two Jobs in One Pass

The headline feature works as advertised. A spinning brush roll picks up dirt and debris while the machine simultaneously lays down a stream of cleaning solution. Dirty water gets sucked into a separate tank, leaving floors clean and just slightly damp. A typical room goes from dusty to clean in a single trip across the floor.

Multi-Surface Flexibility

A toggle switch on the handle lets you switch between hard floor mode and area rug mode. Hardwood, tile, vinyl, and laminate all get a good clean. It handles low-pile area rugs reasonably well too, though it is not a replacement for a proper carpet cleaner on thick carpet.

Easy to Maintain

The self-cleaning cycle is a nice touch — dock it in the cleaning tray, press the button, and it flushes the brush roll and internal pathways. The dirty water tank pops off and empties into the sink. The brush roll is removable and machine washable. It takes about two minutes total to clean after each use.

Things to Keep in Mind

Floors are left slightly damp after cleaning, so give them a few minutes to dry before walking in socks. The dirty water tank is not huge, so larger homes may need to empty it mid-session. And it is corded, which means dragging a power cable around — there is a cordless version but it costs significantly more.

Should You Buy It?

If you have mainly hard floors and hate the vacuum-then-mop routine, the CrossWave is a genuine upgrade. One pass does what used to take two separate tools and twice the time. At $200 it pays for itself in saved effort quickly.
