Tile Mate (2024) Bluetooth Tracker Review

Design & Build

The Tile Mate is a small, square tracker (1.5 x 1.5 inches) with a hole for attaching to keychains, bags, or luggage. The 2024 model comes in black or white and feels sturdy despite its lightweight plastic construction. It's IP67 water-resistant, so getting caught in the rain or dropping it in a puddle won't kill it.

The built-in button doubles as a phone finder — press it to make your phone ring even when it's on silent. This reverse-finding feature is genuinely handy.

Tracking Performance

With a 250-foot Bluetooth range, the Tile Mate offers the best range in its price class. In our testing, we consistently got reliable connections at 200+ feet in open areas and about 80-100 feet indoors through walls.

When your item is nearby, the Tile app shows you're within range and plays the tracker's built-in speaker — which is surprisingly loud for its size. When your item is out of range, the app shows the last known location on a map.

The Tile Network

Tile uses a community-based finding network. When any Tile user passes near your lost tracker, its location updates anonymously. While this network is smaller than Apple's Find My network, it's still substantial with millions of active users worldwide.

For premium features like Smart Alerts (notifications when you leave something behind), item sharing, and extended warranty, you'll need the Tile Premium subscription at $2.99/month. The free tier covers basic tracking, which is enough for most people.

Battery Life

The Tile Mate uses a standard CR1632 battery that lasts up to 3 years. No charging cables, no docks — just replace the battery when it eventually dies. This is a major advantage over rechargeable trackers that need weekly or monthly charging.

App Experience

The Tile app (iOS and Android) is clean and straightforward. Each tracker appears on a dashboard showing its last known location and connection status. You can rename trackers, assign categories (keys, wallet, bag), and set up sharing with family members.

Should You Buy It?

If you're an Android user, the Tile Mate is essentially your best option for Bluetooth tracking. iPhone users might prefer AirTags for the precision finding feature, but the Tile Mate costs less and offers a longer range. For $24.99 with a 3-year battery, it's a no-brainer for chronic key-losers.
